Passive Infrared Dectectors (PIR)

The passive infrared detector (PIR) is one of the most common detectors found in household and small business environments because it offers affordable and reliable functionality. The term passive means the detector is able to function without the need to generate and radiate its own energy (unlike ultrasonic and microwave volumetric intrusion detectors that are “active” in operation). PIRs are able to distinguish if an infrared emitting object is present by first learning the ambient temperature of the monitored space and then detecting a change in the temperature caused by the presence of an object.

Using the principle of differentiation, which is a check of presence or nonpresence, PIRs verify if an intruder or object is actually there. Creating individual zones of detection where each zone comprises one or more layers can achieve differentiation. Between the zones there are areas of no sensitivity (dead zones) that are used by the sensor for comparison.

ET Environmentally Tolerant Infrared Detector

ET uses split offset optics with dual channel processing from twin dual element sensors. Output from each channel is monitored by a dedicated high-speed microprocessor which compares the signals for mass, speed, timing and direction, so ET can distinguish between human targets and other random sources of infrared energy.

ET will reliably tolerate hostile environments while still exhibiting razor sharp response to intrusion. ET will also tolerate small animals and rodents without false alarms, but is not recommended as a pet exclusion sensor.

PXI Pet Exclusion Infrared Detector

PXI features split optics dual infrared sensors with intelligent pet exclusion analysis that checks the speed, mass and shape of the target in digital form.

Installer trimmed sensitivity and environment controls allow selection of the best ‘catch rate’ for a wide range of environmental conditions.

‘PetCheck’mode conclusively verifies that the sensor will not alarm when the pet is left in the protected area. Temperature compensation is microprocessor auto sensitivity adjust.
